Copyright Information

Places to look for more copyright information:
This list exists to satisfy people who might be interested in legal technicalities. All these are references by people who claim to know what they are talking about. All of them look reasonable to me, but I'm not guaranteeing anything. If you have serious legal questions, consult your own attorney.

Disclaimer: The following is not legal advice, not even illegal advice. I am not an attorney. I have not played one on TV or in a role-playing game. This is my understanding of the law. If you rely on it in important matters, without getting actual legal counsel, you are a fool.

My claims: Everything here is copyrighted as soon as it passes into a fixed format (like the little magnetic fields on my ISP's disk drives), provided of course there is some creativity in it. I'm putting on the "Copyright 1997 David H. Thornley" notes because I've heard that distributing material without those little notes loses a little edge in a lawsuit. I reserve all rights to these materials. (Note that some stuff may be copyright by somebody else, or may be public domain. I'll mention these as I go along.)

General permissions: It turns out that there are copyright questions in various Web activities. To simplify things, here's some permissions: You are allowed to copy everything I've copyrighted here to transform its physical realization as necessary to view it, and you are allowed to copy said things for purposes of temporary caching, both in an individual web browser and on a server, provided that these are done in the context of web viewing (which, as far as I'm concerned, includes both visual and nonvisual access) and provided that permanent copies are not made. I've seen some claims, which seem ridiculous to me, that you need permission to link to somebody else's page. Whatever, you do have permission to link to my pages if you like, provide that you don't pass off my stuff as your own.

Other permissions: If you have some need or desire to do something I haven't allowed here, mail me. I'm generally reasonable. (Of course, if you have ambitions of profiting off my pages, I'd like a cut. I may be reasonable, but I try not to be too gullible.)
